Paul Walker’s Daughter Received $10M Settlement From Driver in Fatal Crash

Paul Walker's 16-year-old daughter Meadow received a $10 million settlement from the estate of Roger Rodas, the man who was behind the wheel in the 2013 car crash that killed the Fast and Furious star, TMZreports.

The settlement, which was made in 2014, holds Walker's friend and financial adviser partly responsible for the crash, though Meadow's attorney notes that he was "not directing the car through any particularly unsafe maneuvers when it went out of control."

Both Walker and Rodas's families have sued Porsche over the accident, saying the Carrera GT Rodas was driving lacked crucial safety features that could have prevented both men's deaths.

Rodas's widow's lawsuit was dismissed earlier this week, while Meadow and Walker's father's suits are still active. Porsche claims the car was "misused and improperly maintained," and says Walker's death was his "own comparative fault."

NFL: Johnny Manziel says he's moved in with Broncos LB Miller

Johnny Manziel has found a roommate who is on a quest to get the troubled quarterback back into the NFL.

"I'm living out here with my guy, Von Miller. Everybody knows Von Miller. Super Bowl MVP, Von Miller, my brother. I'm living with him right now," Manziel told TMZ on Saturday night. "We're getting our lives together, bro."

Manziel's comments were made in West Hollywood. Manziel briefly commandeered the TMZ camera before the videographer started asking him questions.

A day earlier, Miller advocated for the reigning Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos to sign his fellow Texas A&M alum.

"If I had to make my decision on it, he would already be on the Broncos," Miller told reporters Friday. "But we've got guys in the front office that make those decisions, and they put us in championships with those decisions.

"So I'm just going to follow those guys and have those guys take the lead."

The quarterback-needy Broncos were linked to Manziel this past week, when two team sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Denver coach Gary Kubiak spoke with the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Kubiak and Manziel, who both are former Texas A&M quarterbacks, spoke about Manziel being a potential fit for the Broncos down the line, the sources said. Before the Broncos would seriously consider adding Manziel, they want to see how his pending legal issues and potential NFL discipline are resolved, according to sources.

Manziel called the Broncos a "great organization" Saturday, adding that "anywhere I get picked up, bro, is a blessing."

"Whatever happens, I love ball," he said. "I want to play."
Manziel, who said he has been out in West Hollywood five to six nights in a row, said he doesn't think NFL teams have a problem with his partying.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with partying, bro," Manziel said. "There's a difference between partying and being out of control."

Miller, the MVP of Super Bowl 50, has been vocal this offseason in his support of Manziel, who was released last month by the Cleveland Browns. Miller backed Manziel in a recent interview with ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike, saying "I don't think Johnny Football's days are over in the National Football League."

The Broncos are in the market for a quarterback after the retirement of Peyton Manning and the free-agent departure of Brock Osweiler, who joined theHouston Texans. Mark Sanchez, acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Trevor Siemian are the only quarterbacks on Denver's roster.

The Broncos also have had trade discussions with the San Francisco 49ersregarding Colin Kaepernick but would need the quarterback to agree to a pay cut from his scheduled $11.9 million salary for 2016 -- a sticking point that has stalled talks. Denver also is expected to consider quarterbacks in the draft.

Hillary Clinton and Bill de Blasio set off cringing with painful joke about ‘colored

New York City’s annual Inner Circle Dinner brought New York politicians together for an evening of food and fun but also for stiff politicians performing awkward skits. Such was the case when former New York Senator Hillary Clinton and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio were on stage. Clinton poked fun at de Blasio for his endorsement coming a little late in the game for Clinton’s taste. “I just have to say thanks for the endorsement, Bill. Took you long enough,” she said to laughter.

“Sorry Hillary, I was running on C.P. time,” de Blasio responded to a mixture of chuckles and gasps. CPT is known as “colored people time” the stereotype that African Americans generally tell as a reason for being late to an event or a traditionally black event not beginning on time.

Hamilton actor Leslie Odom Jr. was on stage with the two and commented that the joke made him uncomfortable. “That’s not — I don’t like jokes like that, Bill.”

Clinton joked that she wasn’t referring to that CPT but rather “cautious politician time.”

De Blasio was the target of racism during his 2013 campaign after he said the city’s “stop and frisk” law was racist, citing his biracial son’s experience with NYPD police.

The Truth about Michael Jordan Without Scottie Pippen

http://nobodytouchesjordan.blogspot....el-jordan.html

Before we begin, I just want to emphasize that I am not trying to diminish Scottie's accomplishments and I agree that Jordan would not have won 6 without Scottie, though I believe he would have won 2 or 3. However, not being able to win 6 without Scottie is irrelevant since no player has won 2+ rings without another Hall of Fame teammate.
Barry did it with rookie Jamaal Wilkes shooting 32% in the 1975 Finals
Walton did it once in 1977 (but with Hall of Fame coach Jack Ramsay)
Hakeem did it once in 1994
But nobody did it more than once.
The purpose of this section is to dispel the myths created by those that use Pippen as a means to discredit Jordan's accomplishments.
This section has a lot of carry over from Section 8, but now we focus solely on the biggest criticism against Jordan - being unable to win without Pippen. Although this is technically true, there is an extreme lack of context behind what actually happened without Pippen. Let's take a look at the whole picture.
1) Jordan's 1-9 playoff record before playing with Scottie Pippen
Having no Scottie Pippen was not the only reason for Jordan's struggles in the first 3 seasons of his career
Jordan was drafted to a team of multiple cocaine addicts, including Orlando Woolridge and Quintin Dailey - both of whom eventually left the team due to their addictions
Jordan also missed nearly his entire 2nd season due to a broken foot, during which the Bulls went 21-43 without Jordan. Do you really expect him to make it out the first round after missing nearly the entire season with a 21-43 team, and with crack addicts on top of that?
Jordan only played 2 full seasons before playing with Pippen thanks to his injury. Going off an extremely selective 2 season sample size, one can point out that LeBron didn't even make the playoffs his first 2 seasons, or that Shaq had an 0-3 playoff record after his first 2 seasons.
2) Jordan having 5 losing seasons in all 5 seasons without Pippen
The first 3 seasons have already been explained. Lets take a look at Jordan's Wizards years with FULL context
MJ 2001/02 season before injury (Age 38) through 46 games (pts, rebs, assist, steals, blk)
25.1 - 6.2 - 5.3 - 1.5 - 0.5 on 42% - slightly better than his 1996 Finals MVP averages
T-Mac was the only player to finish the season averaging at least 25-6-5
Defensively Jordan also had an impact even at this late stage of his career.

2001 Wizards = 2nd worst in ppg allowed the year before.
Up to the injury game
2002 Wizards = allowed 92.2 ppg through 47 games (Jordan missed 1 game)
- would be tied for 6th-best in the league with the Pistons.

2002 Wizards = allowed 92.0 ppg in the 46 games Jordan played
- would be tied for 5th best in the league with the Nets
After Jordan's injury
2002 Wizards = allowed 96.8 ppg in the remaining 35 games
- would be ranked 19th in the league
- and fell to 11th in ppg allowed for the overall season.
The only negative of Jordan's game was FG%, which is to be expected at the tail end of your career, and his low FG% had much more to do with his back, rib, knee, and wrist injuries along with his old age, rather than the defense he was facing. However, low FG% doesn't necessarily equate to a negative effect on your team's win column.
In Jordan's 46 games before knee injury the Wiz had a 26-20 (0.565 win%).
In games without MJ and post-injury, the Wiz had a 11-25 (0.300 win%)
This is also despite the absence of Rip Hamilton for about a month during Jordan's 26-20 stretch (Jordan missed 1 game vs the Spurs - bringing their record to 26-21 before the injury).
In the last 16 games that Rip and Jordan played together prior to Jordan's knee collision, the Wizards went 15-1, and they won 13 straight games when both of them played together. Had both Rip and MJ stayed healthy, they very well could have cracked 50 wins overall despite starting the season 2-9 and being a 19-win team the previous year.
After Jordan's injury, Rip went 9-24 (0.273 win%) in the remaining games he played, so it was clearly Jordan who had by far the most impact on the W column. The following season, Jordan didn't have as much of an impact on the W column in the 2002/03 season as they went 37-45. His impact prior to injury is unquestionable, however.

Dang, were y'all lookin' THAT hard for the album???

It’s finally here!

Beyonce launched the Ivy Park line this morning to considerable fanfare, so much that the Topshop site crashed in both the U.S. and Europe.
Many people filled their virtual shopping carts full of the ‘XO’ singer’s merchandise only to find they had no way to pay once they went to checkout.

How did customers react to the situation? Keep reading.

Other customers had better luck with the site, and it seems to be back online following the initial outage.

At age 27, receiver Percy Harvin is retiring from the NFL

By Frank Schwab 14 hours ago Shutdown Corner

.
(AP)

Say this about Percy Harvin's short and controversial NFL career: He'll have one indelible highlight, which we'll see every year at Super Bowl time.
Harvin's kickoff return for a touchdown to open up the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII basically sealed the Seattle Seahawks' only Super Bowl championship. It was the best of Harvin, darting around defenders and outrunning them to the end zone.

There weren't enough highlights like that for the talented Harvin, and especially not in his final two seasons. Injuries and drama were too big of a part of his NFL story, and on Thursday many media outlets reported that Harvin has decided to retire at age 27.

Harvin's career was never the same after a huge 2013 trade sent him to the Seattle Seahawks, and the big contract extension from the team that followed. The Vikings got a first-, third- and seventh-round pick for Harvin, who got a six-year, $67 million deal from Seattle. It turned out to be one of the worst trades and contracts in NFL history. Harvin played one regular-season game in 2013 due to injuries. He played five games for Seattle in 2014 before he was abruptly traded to the New York Jets during the season, amid reports that he had fought with multiple teammates. He had that great Super Bowl, and that will be a big part of his NFL legacy.

Harvin had a quiet rest of the 2014 season with the Jets, played in just five games with the Buffalo Bills last season, then he waffled this offseason on whether to play or not. Reports said his hip was still bothering him. He ultimately decided to retire, though with Harvin one can never be too sure.

The former first-round pick finishes with 32 regular-season touchdowns, 29 of which came in his first four seasons with the Vikings. It seemed like there should have been more highlights for Harvin, but he does have the one from the Super Bowl to remember

A mysterious white foam rolled through the streets of Fukuoka, Japan after two strong earthquakes shook the southern region.

A mysterious foam flowed down a street in Japan overnight after the southern region of the country was struck by two powerful earthquakes and numerous aftershocks.

Fukuoka is nearly two hours away from Kumamoto, where the strong earthquakes struck late Thursday and early Saturday. Residents in Fukuoka felt the earthquakes, and it is suspected but not confirmed that the mysterious foam is related to the seismic activity.

There were rumors that an underground pipe burst, but Mashable was unable to confirm that report with local authorities.

Images of the strange sight were posted on Twitter.
